14 January 2013: Mr Price Sport’s new Trail Tech clothing range meets the CANSA SunSmart Choice Seal requirements, recognising it as UV protective clothing that is effective against the harmful effects of the sun. See clothing here…
This fashionable range of technical garments has been especially tested and verified to meet the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) 50 standards. UPF is a scale developed to rate protection provided by clothing against Solar Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR). Different wavelengths of radiation in the UVR spectrum have different effects on human skin which is taken into consideration when calculating the UPF rating. UPF is directly comparable to the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) for sunscreens in that a garment rated UPF 50 will provide the skin with 50 times the protection against UVR compared to unprotected skin.
Skin cancer is one of the most common in South Africa. Be aware of the risk factors for skin cancer and follow easy preventative measures to reduce your risk. Take charge of your skin and be aware of the dangers of the sun. To make people more aware of the effects of the sun and reduce the incidence of skin cancer in South Africa, this partnership with Mr Price is proactively helping all to protect themselves against skin damage and cancer.
Sean Botha of Mr Price says “We’re excited about this new range to keep our customers safe from damaging solar rays as well as joining the fight against cancer”.
“We’re always looking out for products and partners that help to protect the public from the harmful rays of the sun. It’s important to know that UV radiation can be high even on cool and overcast days. Wearing the Mr Price Sport Trail Tech range is not enough though. Sunscreen must be applied regularly to all exposed skin, whilst UV protective hats and sunglasses should also be worn.” added Sue Janse van Rensburg, CANSA CEO. Read more about SunSmart living here…
