Cuppa 2014 – in support of children affected by cancer…

4 June 2014 - CANSA encourages all to raise their tea and coffee cups and help fight cancer by taking part in its annual national Cuppa For CANSA Campaign. Read more about how to get involved at www.cuppa.org.za

“The call to action is simple. Host a Cuppa event by inviting loved ones, friends and work colleagues to enjoy a cup of your favourite beverage and raise funds for the care and support that we provide to those that have heard the words ‘you have cancer’,” says CANSA’s Acting CEO, Elize Joubert.

CANSA’s Cuppa Theme for 2014

CANSA’s theme for 2014 is ‘Holistic Care and Support’ to those affected by cancer, with the focus on CANSA’s Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) Programme. This programme supports children, teens and families affected by cancer – especially focusing on awareness of childhood cancers and early detection. Launch events for this year’s Cuppa For CANSA Campaign take place on 6 June 2014 at CANSA Care Centres in Pretoria, Witbank, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth in support of the TLC programmes, including a cheque handover by Shoprite Checkers.

“The CANSA TLC programme provides assistance to children and teens diagnosed with cancer, as well as families and siblings who are affected by the diagnosis. We aim to improve the quality of support offered to children traumatised by cancer,” Joubert adds.

Shoprite Checkers & Freshpak Sponsor Cuppa

Proud sponsors, Shoprite and Checkers, generously contributed to the 2014 campaign by donating vouchers valued to R94 000 towards the CANSA TLC programmes in Pretoria, Witbank, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth. They have also donated R75 000 to the Cuppa For CANSA campaign every year over the last three years and provide all campaign materials nationally.

With the help of Shoprite and Checkers, Cuppa For CANSA raised over R2.7million during the 2013 campaign alone, of which more than R780 000 was raised in-store through the generous contributions of South Africans.

Africa’s largest retailer is supporting the Cuppa For with CANSA Campaign, as it can play an important role in helping especially young cancer survivors cope with cancer. Together with CANSA, Shoprite Checkers produced a customer information leaflet that provides an overview of childhood cancer warning signs to help create awareness.

Leaflets are available at CANSA Care Centres & at the consumer boards in Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Shoprite stores countrywide.

This year, Freshpak is welcomed back as an official tea supplier, donating 100 000 Rooibos teabags for the Cuppa For CANSA campaign.

Joubert concludes by mentioning that CANSA has an exciting new Cuppa For CANSA ‘Host Kit’ of new items that will make Cuppa events fun and memorable. These kits may be purchased for R100 at local CANSA Care CentresView them on the Cuppa Website and get tips re hosting your Cuppa.
