3 May 2013 – In May, during this year’s journey to find the new Mrs South Africa for 2013, the 50 semi-finalists will be helping the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) as health and fundraising volunteers. They will be working with CANSA staff to provide care and support to those affected by cancer.
On 1 June 2013, all 50 semi-finalists will come together at Emperors Palace for the annual charity ball, hosted by Mrs South Africa, with CANSA as the beneficiary. They will be selling tickets to the ball as part of their fundraising efforts. For tickets to the event, send an email to Candice Fehrsen.
“At this event, the top 22 finalists will be announced, they will then return to their communities all over South Africa and help raise funds and volunteer for CANSA. The finalist who raises the most funds will be rewarded with a CANSA certificate and floating trophy at the finals on 5th October 2013,” says Joani Johnson, Director of the Pageant.
The current Mrs South Africa, Fikile Mekgoe is very excited to get involved with CANSA as she’s a great activist for woman rights and breast cancer awareness. “It’s great that we as role models in our communities can be involved with such a great organisation and inspire others to get involved too. We’re looking forward to working hand-in-hand with CANSA throughout the remainder of this competition,” says Fikile.
